Hi All,

In roughly eight weeks’ time I’ll be setting off with 11 other runners from John O’Groats on a 1500km run to Land’s End (JOGLE) – and the target is to set an official world record. We’ll be running ‘in relay’ which means I’ll be running one twelfth of the total distance. But that still feels like plenty as we’ll each be running the distance of three marathons in six days. There will be some nasty hills and we’ll be running through day and night shifts – so why take on such a challenge?

The answer lies in a young lad named William French. William was born with a very rare condition called Niemann-Pick Disease – a condition that is sometimes called Children’s Alzheimer’s. It’s a neurological wasting disease and currently there is little to no hope for those that suffer from it. It kills children. Thankfully very few people suffer from Niemann-Pick – but that also means there is little market for any treatment or cure – so the large drug companies focus their budgets elsewhere. This means that any funding for research into Niemann-Pick is reliant on efforts such as ours to raise money. Every penny donated to our run will go to the Niemann-Pick Research Foundation as we are covering all the costs of the run from our own pockets.

So that’s why we’re doing it. To give some hope to kids like William. To give some hope to the families of kids like William. And to fund research that can change the future for the better.

I’m asking for your support and I’ve set up a fundraising page here: https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/andyowen1

And we’ve got an “event” website here too if you want to find out more about what kind of research your money will pay for:www.npjogle2015.co.uk

Thank you for your support and donation to Niemann-Pick.

Andy
